AUBURN RAVINE

AUBURN RAVINE
The Auburn Ravine, home base for FAR, is a perennial stream that flows from Auburn all the way down to the Sacramento River, near Verona. For nearly 34 miles, it carries the imported waters of the American, Bear, and Yuba rivers during the spring and summer, while during the fall and winter, its water levels can swell considerably with rainwater and flood over the banks. It is managed by four different organizations: Nevada Irrigation District (NID), Placer County Water Agency (PCWA), Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), and South Sutter Water District (SSWD).
Along with the wildlife that relies on the Auburn Ravine and the riparian habitat it provides, humans also depend on the Auburn Ravine to irrigate their farms, orchards, vineyards, and more! Because of this, we have a responsibility to take care of this invaluable resource and its wildlife to ensure it remains healthy and prosperous for years and years to come.
You can visit our Animals of Auburn Ravine page to learn about a few of the many different animals that depend on the Auburn Ravine and waterways like it.
Below is an interpretive map of the Auburn Ravine, which can also be found on our Maps page.
